Love Cab Franc? This is one to try - complex, elegant, smashable
57% Cabernet Franc, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot
Winshaw Family Vineyards in Stellenbosch is run by brothers, Pierre and JP Winshaw. Winshaws helped establish many iconic brands like Chataue Libertas, Tassenberg and Zonnebloem that are still with us today.
This is a classic blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Full-bodied, complex with wonderful tannins and length. This is one to decant or cellar for a few years. 24 months in 225L and 300L French oak barrels, with roughly one-third new oak.
Tasting Notes: Dark, leafy fragrance with hints of tobacco, new leather, crushed blackberries, plums, and winter spice. Velvety tannins with a full-bodied texture, and a dry, classy finish. It is stylistically modern yet traditional with high fruit purity and a brooding character.
Food Pairing: Bold and structured Bordeaux-style red blend that pairs best with rich, savoury, and hearty dishes. Steak and Red Meat: sirloin steak and roasted beef, particularly with rich toppings like béarnaise sauce. Hearty Stews: Its structure and 14.5% alcohol level hold up well against slow-cooked stews and venison. Pasta and Italian Food: excellent match for beef bolognese. Roasted Vegetables: Pairs well with robust vegetable dishes.
