The 2025 vintage marks Lukas van Loggerenberg’s tenth under his own label. A decade shaped by enduring relationships with exceptional old vineyards and the families who have farmed them for generations. Following a cold winter and mild growing season, the harvest unfolded slowly and naturally, allowing each vineyard to be picked at its point of balance. The resulting wines are defined by purity, precision and composure, expressing both the character of the 2025 vintage and Lukas’s deepening understanding of these remarkable sites.
Label story: We all have this inner instinct telling us what to do and sometimes you just have to trust your gut to tell you what the right move is. I sourced grapes from special vineyards to use in this blend, which I believe is a great example of a wine that is made up of components that come together to provide a wine that is greater than the sum of its individual parts. All the pictures on the label are in some way symbolizing to trust your gut to give you direction like a compass provides to a sailor and like a bee just knows where it must go to find pollen and make honey. The stamp is to emphasize our South African heritage.
Trust Your Gut was created to capture the strengths of three Western Cape Chenin Blanc vineyards in a single white wine. Rather than focusing on one vineyard, Lukas brings together fruit from exceptional old sites across the region, believing that the Cape's greatest strength lies in its diversity.
Tasting Notes: The nose is immediately expressive, with crystalline pear, citrus peel, and stone fruit. A savoury dimension of fynbos and flinty reduction adds depth and intrigue. Swartland fruit imparts tight mineral precision and linear drive, while Stellenbosch parcels broaden the mid-palate with ripe dried mango and apricot. The interplay between tension and generosity is finely judged. Vibrant acidity frames the fruit, while phenolic grip lends texture and authority. The balance between freshness and weight is a hallmark of van Loggerenberg’s style.Long, pithy, and savoury, echoing citrus zest and granite minerality.
Food Pairing: The wine’s vibrant acidity and phenolic grip cut beautifully through richer dishes like roast chicken with lemon and herbs, pork belly with crackling, or creamy seafood pastas. Its savoury, flinty edge complements Mediterranean flavours. Grilled linefish or kingklip with lemon butter: The wine's acidity and citrus core mirror the dish, while its textural grip stands up to butter richness. Cape Malay chicken curry, mild to medium spice – the wine's stone fruit and honeyed edge tame gentle spice without losing definition. Roast chicken with fynbos herbs (rosemary, thyme) – echoes the wine's own herbal, savoury note. Soft ripened goat's cheese: the wine's acidity cuts the cheese's richness, its texture matches its creaminess
