A remarkable old-vine Chenin Blanc born from friendship and the Swartland.
The 2025 vintage marks Lukas van Loggerenberg’s tenth under his own label. A decade shaped by enduring relationships with exceptional old vineyards and the families who have farmed them for generations. Following a cold winter and mild growing season, the harvest unfolded slowly and naturally, allowing each vineyard to be picked at its point of balance. The resulting wines are defined by purity, precision and composure, expressing both the character of the 2025 vintage and Lukas’s deepening understanding of these remarkable sites.
The Van Loggerenberg Kameraderie Chenin Blanc 2025 is Lukas van Loggerenberg's tribute to the friendships forged through a shared love of wine. Sourced from two exceptional dryland bush vine vineyards planted in 1966 and 1967 on the western slopes of the Paardeberg, this wine captures the essence of old-vine Swartland Chenin Blanc. Crafted with minimal intervention and matured in a combination of Italian concrete and seasoned French oak, Kameraderie is a beautifully textured wine that balances concentration, purity and remarkable finesse.
Tasting notes: The nose is beautifully expressive, revealing aromas of quince, citrus peel and ripe peach, layered with delicate potpourri, fresh herbs and subtle lees-derived complexity. The palate is powerful yet impeccably balanced, offering dense orchard fruit supported by vibrant natural acidity. A pronounced savoury minerality builds through the wine, leading to an exceptionally long, focused finish that combines richness with elegance and precision.
Food pairing: A serious old-vine Chenin Blanc that deserves equally thoughtful cuisine. Seafood: Butter-poached crayfish, grilled kingklip or seared scallops beautifully complement the wine's concentration and mineral drive. Poultry: Roast guinea fowl or free-range chicken with wild mushrooms and a light cream sauce enhances its texture and savoury complexity. Pork Dishes: Slow-roasted pork belly with apple purée or cider-glazed pork loin mirrors the wine's orchard fruit and vibrant acidity. Vegetarian Dishes: Roast celeriac, cauliflower with brown butter or wild mushroom risotto echo the wine's earthy depth and layered palate. Hard Cheeses: Mature Comté, Gruyère or aged Gouda provide a superb match for its richness and long, savoury finish.

From Paardeberg, 85% from vineyard planted in 1966 (Lammershoek) and 15% from a vineyard planted in 1967, the former fermented and matured in concrete tank, the latter in old oak. Quince, citrus, peach, potpourri, herbs and a little leesy complexity. The palate is powerful yet impeccably proportioned, with dense fruit counterbalanced by punchy acidity before an intensely savoury finish of remarkable persistence. Substantial yet elegant, combining concentration and poise to compelling effect. Alc: 13.1%. CE’s rating: 97 | Luxurious - Winemag.co.za
