A cool-climate Grenache shaped by altitude, stone and patience
The Swanepoel Grenache Noir 2022 is sourced from high-altitude vineyards planted against the rocky slopes of the Tulbagh Valley, where early morning sun and cool afternoon breezes allow for slow, even ripening. This natural balance of warmth and freshness results in fruit with both intensity and finesse. In the cellar, the wine is wild fermented in a historic stone cellar before being matured in barrel for 18 months. The approach is minimal and traditional, allowing site and fruit to define the final expression, with structure and texture built gently through time rather than extraction.
Tasting notes: Lifted aromas of cranberries, red cherries and wild strawberries, supported by subtle floral and herbal notes. The palate is bright and expressive, showing pure red berry fruit with a lively line of acidity that keeps the wine fresh and energetic. Fine-grained tannins provide shape and structure without weight, carrying the fruit into a long, clean finish with gentle savoury undertones.
Food pairing: A refined and versatile red that pairs beautifully with both lighter and more savoury dishes. Roast Duck: Duck breast with cherry or berry reduction enhances the wine’s bright red fruit and fine structure. Grilled Lamb: Herb-crusted lamb chops complement its freshness and subtle savoury depth.
