From a heritage vineyard where gravity does the hard work
Named after the steep slopes on which it grows, Swaartekrag, meaning "gravity", is sourced from a certified Heritage Vineyard planted in 1968 in the Swartland. Part of the Super Single Vineyards Heritage range, this Chenin Blanc is crafted to showcase the character of a remarkable old-vine site. After two days of skin contact, the wine undergoes natural fermentation in French and Hungarian oak barrels before spending eight months on the lees. The result is a Chenin Blanc that combines old-vine concentration with freshness, texture and understated complexity.
Tasting notes: Aromas of peach blossom, white pear and citrus peel. The palate is rich and concentrated, showing layers of ripe stone fruit, yellow apple and preserved lemon, supported by a subtle creamy texture from barrel fermentation and lees ageing. Fresh acidity provides balance and lift, while a gentle mineral thread carries through to a long, textured finish. This is a Chenin Blanc that offers immediate appeal while promising further development with time in bottle.
Food pairing: A textured and expressive Chenin Blanc that pairs beautifully with both seafood and richer white meat dishes. Roast chicken: Herb-roasted chicken complements the wine's concentration and subtle oak influence. Seared Scallops and rich seafood: Sweet scallops highlight the wine's stone fruit character and fresh acidity. Lobster, crayfish or butter-poached prawns match its texture and depth.
