A treasured Bottelary tradition captured in every golden drop
The Stellenrust Chenin d'Muscat Noble Late Harvest 2024 is more than a dessert wine. It is a piece of Stellenrust's history. Still carrying the estate's original 1928 label, this natural sweet wine pays tribute to two of the oldest vineyards on the Bottelary property. The blend combines Chenin Blanc bush vines that are over 50 years old with Muscat de Alexandrie vines that are more than 70 years old. Botrytis-affected Chenin Blanc and vine-dried Muscat grapes are harvested at exceptional ripeness before being naturally fermented in barrel. The two components are matured separately and blended after extended barrel ageing, resulting in a wine of remarkable richness, concentration and complexity.
Tasting notes: Deep golden in colour with intense aromas of ripe apricot, honey and tropical fruit. The palate is luscious and layered, revealing flavours of dried apricot, pear drop, orange marmalade and honeyed stone fruit. The Muscat component adds an exotic floral spice that lingers beautifully through the finish. Despite its richness, the wine remains balanced and vibrant, making it both indulgent and remarkably drinkable.
Food pairing: A beautifully rich dessert wine that pairs effortlessly with both sweet and savoury dishes. Crème Brûlée: The caramelised sugar and creamy texture complement the wine's honeyed richness. Baked Naartjie Dessert: A classic Stellenrust recommendation, especially when served with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Blue Cheese: The combination of sweetness and acidity creates a wonderful balance against salty, pungent cheeses. Foie Gras: A luxurious pairing where the wine's concentration and freshness cut through the richness of the dish.
