Roussanne (pronounced roo-sahn) is a premium, aromatic white grape variety originating from France's Rhône Valley. It is often described as a "hidden gem" or a "wine lover's wine"—rich and textured like a good Chardonnay, but with exotic, herbal aromas that make it unique.
Roussanne is a relative newcomer and still very rare in South Africa. There are fewer than 10 South African producers, and we are proud to be ranked among the top.
The grapes were hand harvested, de-stemmed, pressed, and settled overnight. The juice was fermented in 2 brand new fine grain American 500L oak barrels and a Clay amphora egg, it then matured in these vessels for 6 months with monthly stirring of the lease.
Tasting Notes: Bursting with aromas of apricot, white blossom, and a touch of bay leaf, this is a wonderfully complex wine with a slightly waxy character accompanied by vanilla, white peach, and fresh minerality on the palate. The finish of this wine lingers
Food Pairing: The wine has lovely texture and some complexity. Serve with smoked snoek pate with apricot relish or with a salad of roasted red peppers, Dalewood Huguenot Cheese and rocket with anchovy vinaigrette, or salmon ravioli served with salsa verde. Roast duck with honey, lavender and thyme would be seriously delicious with the wine too.
