Roussanne (pronounced roo-sahn) is a premium, aromatic white grape variety originating from France's Rhône Valley. It is often described as a "hidden gem" or a "wine lover's wine"—rich and textured like a good Chardonnay, but with exotic, herbal aromas that make it unique.
Roussanne offers a sophisticated alternative to mainstream whites and will appeal to discerning drinkers who prize elegance, complexity, and architectural depth.
Grown on high-density echalas as well as trellised vines on clay, shale and quartz rich soils, our four Roussanne vineyards are perched high up on the mountain. Harvesting a batch earlier enhances the natural vibrancy of the variety, and multiple harvest dates build layered complexity, enhancing floral, spice and lifted fruit elements.
Tasting Notes: The aromatic profile delivers an enticing bouquet of wild flowers, sun-ripened apricots, and herbal tea. For instance, you will enjoy subtle notes of beeswax and spice that evolve beautifully in the glass. Moreover, the palate offers a rich, oily texture that feels incredibly luxurious on the tongue. Every sip provides a balanced acidity and a persistent finish with hints of dried pear and almond. Additionally, the wine matures in seasoned French oak and concrete eggs to enhance its complex mouthfeel. As a result, this Roussanne achieves a perfect harmony between weight and freshness.
Food Pairings: Roasted chicken with rosemary and garlic, turkey, or creamy chicken dishes. Seafood in Rich Sauces: Grilled lobster with butter sauce, pan-seared scallops, or creamy baked fish. Creamy Risottos & Pasta: Risotto with saffron, roasted fennel, or creamy pasta with lemon and Parmesan. Spicy & Aromatic Cuisine: North African chicken tagines with apricots and almonds, or mild Cape Malay curries.
