Our Chenin Blanc grapes thrive in high-perched trellised vineyards planted on sandstone with clay-shale subsoil. Two different harvest dates build natural complexity. Whole-bunch pressing and natural fermentation with a high percentage of lees add texture and complexity. Beautiful stone fruit, bright citrus notes, a fleshy textured palate and engaging length are the standout features of this wine.
Tasting Notes: Fresh stone fruit (peach), bright citrus, and subtle mineral hints. Fleshy and textured with a good balance of crisp acidity and stone fruit flavors. Long, engaging, and often described as having a faint salty or minerally finish. Medium-bodied, utilizing whole-bunch pressing and 10 months of aging on the lees to add complexity and texture.
Food Pairing: This wine's high acidity and textured palate make it suitable for both refined, rich dishes and rustic cuisine Seafood & Shellfish: Creamy seafood pastas, grilled kingklip with lemon butter, garlic prawns, or fresh oysters. White Meats: Roast chicken, pork belly, or seared duck breast. Creamy & Nutty Cheeses: Soft, creamy cheeses such as brie, gruyere, or chèvre. Vegetarian & Salads: Dishes featuring roasted butternut, asparagus, or salads with tangy vinaigrettes. Mild Curry: Cape Malay style curry
Picked in three stages to maximise complexity, Lark comes from a 0.6-hectare parcel on gravel and sandstone. Delicately wooded and refreshing, it's a vibrant, medium-bodied style of Breedekloof Chenin Blanc with pear, peach and citrus fruit flavours and a faintly salty finish. 2025-30 - 93 Tim Atkin
