The Cape “Skollie” or “Skebenga”, pictured on the front label, forms part of the unique Cape culture, just like this unique Cape Blend. The blend consists of cinsault, pinot noir, pinotage. Part of the proceeds of this wine will go towards a non profit organisation working on improving the lives of people living in crime ridden areas of the Cape Flat.
Grapes were sorted by hand, before being fermented in small bins. The different batches, separately undergoes naturel fermentation (no commercial yeast added) and the skins are punched down in the must by hand (peagage) , where after it is pressed to barrel , where it undergoes natural malo-lactic fermentation in specially selected combination of matured French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: An elegant, medium-bodied "Cape Blend" (Pinotage/Pinot Noir/Cinsault) that balances red fruit with savory depth. Features notes of red berries, strawberries, sour cherry, sweet spices, and sugared orange peel, with a gentle, smoky charcuterie note. Soft, juicy tannins with a long, lingering aftertaste.
"What a great label! Skebenga is a blend of Pinotage with 25% each of its two parents, Cinsault and Pinot Noir. Fermented with 10% whole bunches, it's a juicy, perfumed cuvée with top notes of clove and fynbos, racy redcurrant and black cherry fruit and some underlying tannic grip. 2024-29" Tim Atkin
