Nico’s The Valley Chardonnay is crafted from four Burgundian clones (CY95, 96, 277, and 548), each contributing distinct textures and flavor profiles. Clones 95 and 548 are known for their fruit-forward, rounded character, while 96 and 277 balance this richness with freshness and lively energy. Nico’s affinity for Chardonnay stems from his time in Burgundy, where he worked closely with Bruno Lorenzon of Domaine Lorenzon in Mercurey. The Valley Chardonnay represents some of the finest value available for this variety in South Africa.

Tasting Notes: This is a vintage with multiple layers and texture. The nose transports you to a bakery: brioche, pastry, and yeasty aromas. The mouth is highly textured with notes of oatmeal, almond, chamomile, and orange blossom. It lingers with that tight, mineral, and linear Elgin finish.

Food pairing:  A cool-climate Elgin wine with citrus, peach, and toasted notes, pairing beautifully with rich seafood like grilled line fish, crayfish with butter sauce, or scallops. It also complements creamy pastas, roasted poultry, and soft-ripened cheeses such as Brie or Gruyère.
