A Pinot Noir that hits all of the right notes. Limited quantities - buy them while you can.
A star of the 2025 released wines, La Brune’s Pinot Noir is an exceptional expression of what Elgin does best. The colour is deep and striking with crushed roses, red cherry and brewed tea on the nose. Both haunting and aromatic, the wine has a salty finish with a pronounced chalky edge – drink over the next 5-8 years if you can resist.
From a high-density single vineyard, where the soil is ferricrete with a bit of clay. It spent 12 months in 228-litre ‘untoasted’ barrels, 20% new. Importantly, the oak for both the Pinot and Chardonnay comes from the Pierre du Bourgogne forest, with the barrels custom made for La Brune.
Tatsing Notes: Notes of red cherries, cranberries, crushed roses, and a chalky, mineral-driven finish. The palate is light-bodied with lemon-like acidity and chalky tannins and a touch of umami.
Food pairing: Due to its elegant structure and fine tannins, it pairs best with dishes that match its intensity rather than overpowering it. Roasted or Grilled Poultry: Duck is the quintessential pairing. Its rich, fatty flavor contrasts well with the wine’s high acidity and red fruit notes. Mushroom-Based Dishes: Because of the earthy, forest floor notes often found in this Pinot, it pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, truffle-infused dishes, or a portobello mushroom burger. Rich Fish: Grilled Salmon or Tuna are excellent choices; the oily texture of the fish stands up to the wine while highlighting the fruit, especially with a savory glaze or served with a Pinot-based reduction. Game and Light Meats: Roasted lamb chops, pork loin, or venison pairs well, especially if prepared with a light jus or fruity glaze (cherry or raspberry).
