Genevieve MCC is produced in Bot River by the founder of the brand, Melissa Genevieve Nelsen. She discovered a beautiful pocket of Chardonnay located in the Van der Stel Pass and this inspired her to make the outstanding sparkling wine that is Genevieve Blanc de Blanc MCC. The Genevieve wines are always fine and balanced – never light and acidic, nor cloying and buttery. Melissa manages to produce bubbles of finesse and grace.
Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, the Genevieve MCC Blanc de Blancs 2021 is an elegant expression of Bot River, combining vibrant natural acidity with the complexity that comes from extended time on the lees. Made with a philosophy of minimal intervention, this vintage captures the character of its vineyards while offering the refinement and finesse of a carefully matured Cap Classique.
Tasting Notes: The Genevieve MCC Blanc de Blancs 2021 displays a delicate green-gold hue, with an inviting nose of fresh citrus, white flowers and ripe pear. Subtle notes of hazelnut and mineral complexity add depth and sophistication. The palate is elegant and finely textured, balancing delicate fruit with refreshing acidity and a lingering, refined finish. Extended lees ageing brings an added layer of complexity while allowing the Chardonnay's freshness and precision to shine.
Food Pairing: With its lively acidity, delicate mousse and savoury complexity, this Blanc de Blancs is a versatile companion to seafood, creamy dishes and elegant starters. Freshly shucked oysters complement its crisp acidity and mineral character, while grilled line fish, seared scallops and lightly dressed prawns highlight its citrus notes and refined texture. For a richer pairing, mushroom linguine or creamy Parmesan risotto offers a delicious contrast to the wine's freshness. Fresh goat's cheese served with a citrus-dressed salad or toasted sourdough brings out its delicate fruit and floral notes, while mature Gruyère or aged Gouda complements the subtle hazelnut character developed through extended lees ageing. Serve chilled at 7–10°C to preserve the fine effervescence and showcase the wine's delicate aromas.
