The farm Brakkuil was established in the early 1800's whilst the first grapes (Barbarossa and Palomino) were planted here in 1978.
A Full bodied dry Rose - perfect for food.
Kalksteen rose is the younger version of the Barbarossa Authentic 23. Medium copper-pink color. Fresh red berry nose followed by a softly textured palate. Fresh, nicely balanced with medium acidity and a long finish. Sourced from trellised vines picked at 19.5-20.0 brix, then inoculated using a German yeast. Racked to 300L French barrels for malo and aging for about 3 months. About 6 months total from the vineyard to your glass! Serve well chilled!
Tasting Notes: Delicate notes of candied red fruits, white blossom and citruss peel. There is a wonferful interplay of ornage zest red berry fruits. Wonderful as an aperitif but also good with seafood, tomato salads and charcuterie. This wine is made from the rare variety Barbarossa. There is only one hectare of it in South Africa and it all belongs to Gedeelte wines. There are only 3 other hectares of it in the world, so this is a very rare wine indeed.
