A wildly original rosé that refuses to fit into a single category
A celebration of experimentation, curiosity and the wonderfully unexpected. Crafted from three expressions of Grenache, 73% Grenache Noir, 26% Grenache Gris and 1% Grenache Blanc, this "proper pink wine" blurs the line between rosé and light red. The rare Grenache Gris, one of only a handful of plantings in South Africa, is sourced from a single vineyard in the Voor-Paardeberg, while high-altitude Grenache Noir from the Cederberg contributes aromatic lift and structure. Each component is vinified separately using a variety of traditional techniques, including whole-bunch fermentation, foot treading, skin fermentation and barrel ageing, before being blended after six months of maturation. Bottled unfined and only lightly filtered, it is a wine that embraces individuality while remaining remarkably balanced and drinkable.
Tasting notes: Expressive aromas of raspberry and strawberry are lifted by zesty lemon and lime, revealing the distinctive personality of Grenache in all its forms. The palate is vibrant and energetic, moving effortlessly between the juicy red fruit of Grenache Noir and the citrus-driven freshness of Grenache Blanc, while Grenache Gris adds texture and intrigue. Rounded chalky tannins, bright spice and a savoury edge provide structure, leading to a long, refreshing finish with just an illusion of sweetness. It is a wonderfully versatile wine that is equally enjoyable lightly chilled on a summer's day or served closer to room temperature during the cooler months.
Food pairing: A vibrant and unconventional rosé that thrives alongside rustic, flavour-packed dishes. . Grilled meats: Lamb chops with chimichurri or flame-grilled pork cutlets bring out its juicy Grenache fruit and subtle spice. Vegetable dishes: Roasted root vegetables, grilled Mediterranean vegetables or beetroot with whipped feta echo its earthy complexity and refreshing acidity. Relaxed entertaining: This is a wine made for long lunches, shared platters and good conversation, equally at home around a braai or picnic table.
