Dubbed the 'Pinot Noir of the Swartland', Cinsault produces varietal wines that are light in colour and low in tannin, often displaying bright cherries, earth and spice.
This wine is a true homage to Cinsault's heritage and its enduring place in the Swartland's viticultural history. Cinsault has been farmed here for generations, and its resilience makes it exceptionally well-suited to the region's climate. A vibrant tapestry woven from a blend of bush vine vineyards, each parcel contributes a unique character shaped by the Swartland's diverse soil types - from weathered granite to schist and deep, red clay.
Harvesting took place in the morning and the grapes were transported to the winery where it spent a night in a cold room. The different batches of grapes were fermented separately using natural yeasts. Approximately 50% whole bunches were used. It remained on the skins for approximately 20 days before it was basket pressed. After malolactic fermentation the wine was transferred to foudre and old 500L barrels where it spent 10 months in barrel before bottling.
Tasting Notes: A light-bodied Swartland red featuring notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, plum, and spice. Known for a delicate, perfumed aroma and a supple texture, this wine offers bright acidity, fine tannins, and a savoury, fresh finish. The palate shows good depth of fruit, characterized by plum, cherry, and spice with a hint of reduction. It is juicy upfront with a gently savory finish. It is known to be "light on its feet" yet expressive, with fine-grained powdery tannins and a lively acidity.
Food Pairing: Highly versatile for food pairing. It shines with rustic, savory dishes such as lamp potjie (stew), grilled game, or spicy, herbal Mediterranean dishes like tagine.
